This is not a very good word.
It's an other word for "girlfriend". Usually men use it in their chat , to refer to a girl who they don't really love and don't respect and they only want her for "fun".
So, if you want to refer to a girlfriend say : "have you called your kopela today ?"
It's much better !

An old fashioned Greek '' macho '' expression to describe a girlfriend in a non complementary way.If your friend uses it to describe your girlfriend it is not flatering to you or to her.Tell him you dont have a ''gomena'' but a '' kopela''.

Well as everybody already said it is a not so nice word for girlfriend,if you call your girlfriend gkomena it means you don;t respect her and you don't think much of her(in which case you are too immature to have a girlfriend anyway).I guess it's the same like in the US they use the word b"tch to describe a girlfriend....so tacky....

Means gf, but a better word would be feeleeNAHthah. Greeks know when and when not to use that other word. I don't use it.

It's something similar to "chick", a derogatory -in most cases-word to refer to a beautiful young woman.
Take a look at this, too. http://dictionary.cambridge.org/define.asp?key=13014&dict=CALD
