In two new excellent books, The Future of Conservatism, and, Democratic Capitalism, published by ISI (conservative think tank in DC, the first one, when William F. Buckley was still yet a lad), In the later, writer Brian Anderson stresses that if capitalism and democracy are left unchecked, anomie (means a condition or malaise in individuals, characterized by an absence or diminution of standards or values), dependency, and ruthless egalitarianism corrodes souls and society, alike. What do you think?

I think that you meant wary, not weary.

Oh and I also agree that it does lead to a lack values.

I think you mean WARY of the future, and it is entirely possible. At some point in this "anomie", the CAUSE of which is partisanship, there will be another American Revolution.

I wonder which side will hire Blackwater to guard them?

Unless you're a time traveller, it's impossible to be weary of the future. You can't be weary of something until you've experienced it for longer than you'd like to.

Are you trying to say that conservative intellectuals are LEERY of the future? As a conservative who considers himself to be an intellectual, I disagree heartily.

I think I'd like to read those books. I've earmarked this question so that I will remember to order them. Thanks.

BTW, I'm a Buckley fan. No surprises there -right? :)
