Living near the country, i'm used to deer being about and running away as soon as they are approuched, but i'm just wondering whether they're actually agressive as i've never really heard any deer-attacking stories!
My boyfriend is petrified of them, by the way. :D

When the male deers are on "rut" they tend to defend, not attack, but at the time that you approach them that's the time they will attack. This is also similar to females protecting their fawns, but with what, antlers, well, they simply run into the buches or shrubs or wherever they are, but in some occurances such an event may happen. :D

There are people who are killed by deer every year in the US. Some of these are done by deer attacking people. The bucks have been known to be very aggressive during rut. They are territorial and will charge and even attack a person. A deer is a very strong animal and those hoofs can do a lot of damage. The antlers are not just for decoration either.
I would not go around being afraid of deer, but I would be a little careful during the fall when the deer are mating.

Deer are usually very smart and shy. They run off, just like you said. However, if cornered they will attack. They can actually get up on their hind feet and use their front feet like fists. Also, during rutting season the males become very aggressive. There was just a story a day or two ago about a man who was gored to death by a deer. Like any wind animal, give them some space and some respect and you will be ok.

Yes! They can and have attacked humans. It doesn't happen very often but it does happen! I personally know of a hunter who was attacked by a deer. It has been said that he was attacked because of the scent that he was using to attract the deer. If I remember right; he got some of the scent on his clothing and for whatever reason the deer sort of went nuts and attacked him!

There's video of deer attacking people. Typically attacks are limited to bucks attacking during the mating season. Males of most species get more aggressive and more unpredictable during this time. Normally those people who get attacked are those who show little respect for the creature and invade their flight zone. Occasionally the odd hunter gets attacked either from a not-quite-dead buck who was approached with the hunter thinking it was dead or from the occasional hunter that gets caught on the ground wearing deer urine scent on his clothing.

Yes, they can and will when threatened. It's best to just stay well clear of them. They won't really charge you, but if they feel threatened with no way out, they can kill you.
My friends grandfather came upon one that they didn't see, it was laying low in some brush. When they got up on it, it hopped up and lashed out with it's front hooves. Killed my friends grandfather with a few kicks to the head. Those things are razor sharp.
There are actually a lot of human fatalities to sweet little deer.

Yes! They are in rut early this season. A man was just recently killed on his deer farm because he was walking up to the deer disturbing it. They are very aggressive at this time and no one should be tempted to push these extraordinary creatures.

Actually deer will attack a person, even if they aren't cornered. Just yesterday I saw it happen on "When Animals Attack III."

They are related to Horses and the Horse family; they generally mind their owe business and try to remain distant, but if you mess with their babies or scare them they might attack, they are animals after all. Your boyfriend should be more worried about Big Foot!
