it is a good question and i'll mark it with a star.
it is believed that great men (and women) remained in the collective memory of the primitive people and not only. over the years, while telling the same stories about them, those stories became so embellished that the human attributes were, eventually, being transcended.
my ancient people's chief god, Zalmoxis (or Zamolxes, Zamolxis, Zamolxe) had great abilities, similar to those of all the other kings of the gods, but there are also rumors that he's actually been an apprentice or a slave of pythagoras (even if herodot himself mentioned that gossip and said he did not trust it).
i like the idea of gods being mere civilizing men, in the beginning of the humanity. but then... where did they come from?

No, Zeus was the son of Cronus and Rhea (who were Titans). The bloodlines went from Gaia (the earth) and Uranus (the sky), they bore Cronus and Rhea (and other titans), then Cronus/Rhea had Zeus who was a god.

No. Zeus in Greek mythology is the king of the gods, the ruler of Mount Olympus, and god of the sky and thunder. The son of Cronus and Rhea (both of whom were divine descendants of Gaia, the earth, and Uranus, the sky). He was the youngest of his siblings. He was married to Hera in most traditions, although at the oracle of Dodona his consort was Dione: according to the Iliad, he is the father of Aphrodite by Dione. Accordingly, he is known for his erotic escapades, including one pederastic relationship with Ganymede. His trysts resulted in many famous offspring, including Athena, Apollo and Artemis, Hermes, Persephone (by Demeter), Dionysus, Perseus, Heracles, Helen, Minos, and the Muses (by Mnemosyne); by Hera he is usually said to have sired Ares, Hebe and Hephaestus.

Zeus was never "really" anything, as he was a fictional character of Greek Mythology.
