I'm twenty weeks pregnant with my first. The past two weeks I have been having terrible back pain in the mornings. I know that the only safe otc pain med to take is Tylonol, but not sure if its safe to take it on such a regular basis?

So long as you are not exceeding the recommended dosage, you're OK. You probably want to talk to your doc about other ways to help with your back pain...he/she may recommend pregnancy massage, etc...so you're actually helping the pain, not just getting temporary reprieves from it. :)

My doctor has okayed Tylenol and other OTC medications but told me to take it only if I really, really need it. I usually put up with any aches and pains and try to distract myself from them. Stretching seems to help. I will also tell myself that drinking a glass of water is going to help. The power of the mind is so amazing. Good luck!

As long as you're not taking too much, its okay. If you're pain is just in the mornings and you take 2, that's certainly fine. If you're needing to take more than that, you should probably talk to your doctor.

Also try heat on your back when it hurts, a heating pad or hot water bottle helps with the pain too.

Your Dr can give you something stronger that wont hurt the baby...... I know my Dr. Gave me vicodone, and morphine thru an IV when my pain got worse, while i was pregnant.

The Tylenol wont hurt the baby but prolonged use might do liver damage to you.

I bought one of those hot cold packs from Walgreen's. You can either pop it in the freezer.. or warm it up CAREFULLY in the microwave for a minute. I use that on my lower back and a pregnancy support belt. Tylenol is safe to take but its really useless when it comes to pregnancy back pain.

I had big fibriods when I was pregnant, and talked to my doctor about it since my back burned when I woke up in the morning. He prescribed me T3 (tylenol and codine) to help so I wouldn't be taking so much tylenol. Try stretching when you first get up, and ice packs seemed to help ALOT.
