use the law ln a - ln b = ln a/b

so ln(x+5) - ln(3) = ln(x - 3)
ln((x+5)/3) = ln(x-3)
(x+5)/3 = (x-3)
x+5 = 3x -9
2x = 14
x= 7

oaky first divide by 1n

x+5-3=x-3

hMM okay this is going to turn out as nothing, because the variable x is killed...are you sure the question is correct? if the equation was

1n(x+5) - 1n(3)= -1n(x-3)

then it would make sense but otherwise...im not sure

a million. 5(3-2n)+5n=sixty 5 2. Distribute the 5 into the parenthesis: 15-10n+5n=sixty 5 3. Simplify (-10n+5n=-5n): 15-5n=sixty 5 4. Subtract the 15 to the different fringe of the equation: -5n=50 5. Divide the two factors via -5: n= -10 6. Plug back in to be taught your answer: 5[3-2(-10)]+5(-10)=sixty 5 and there is your answer! :)

x>3
(x+5)/3 =x-3 x+5=3x-9 so x= 7

ln((x+5)/3) = ln(x-3)
(x+5)/3 = (x-3)
x+5 = 3x -9
2x = 14
x= 7
using the logarithm laws, in this case lnx - ln y = ln(x/y)
