I agree with you it is kind of ridiculous to have mandatory costumes for adults although some adults do like to dress up in costumes for Halloween as they find it to be fun. Anyway if I didn't have the money for a costume or just am not comfortable with wearing a costume then I would try to either invent some sort of costume or excuse.

Dressing up the boy as a princess will not make him gay, or a serial killer, or depressed as he gets older. He may be embarrassed by it but who doesn't have any embarrassment from their childhood? If this was the other way around and a girl wanted to dress up in as a prince nobody would say anything. Is dressing up as a princess his idea or yours? It sounds like it is yours. My advice would just ask him what he wants or take him down the costume isle and let him pick a "boy" costume.

No more ridiculous than some of the stuff you involve yourself in on this site.
Get out and have a great time!
I've never bought a costume,I've always put something together from whatever was around the house, and usually make up my face, myself, too.
Go as a dog, they'll never suspect your real identity!

No, it's not ridiculous. She's having a costume party so dress up! It doesn't have to cost a lot of money to go in costume...use your imagination and things around your house that you already have.

Nahw. I think it would be a hoot.
A few years ago, our apartment complex had a Halloween party for the adults. I went as William Wallace from Braveheart. Kilt and blue & orange face paint and all.
My wife went as a Dr. Pepper Can. I made it myself out of hula hoops and plum colored fabric.
We took the 1st & 2nd place prizes for homemade costumes.

Dressing up can be fun and cheap. I am sure if you look thru your closet, you can come up with a costume to wear (an old prom dress to be a horror queen, old clothes to be a hobo, an old white sheet that can be cut up, pajamas and some rollers for your hair). Dress up, go to the party, and have lots of fun!

Sounds like fun and not ridiculous at all. If you don't want to go, I'll go! If you can't afford a costume, usually you can find something around home and make one up...or go to the Salvation Army or Goodwill and look through their clothing items for ideas.

As adults, we call them 'masquerade parties' and they are certainly fun. I'm going to one with my husband for halloween.
You don't have to buy a thing, use old clothes, some makeup and your imagination. Been in a bridal party recently? haul out the dress, wear that, pin your hair up, and make yourself a tiara from aluminum foil and cardboard you can be prom queen, or cinderellla.
Wear something outrageous, along with a backward baseball cap and sunglasses, you can be the latest 'famous for nothing' celebrity.
Have some fun, you are WAY too young to be stuffy about it!!!!
