I heard that those keys contain all your info - credit card, home address, phones, etc .- and it is electronically encoded into the key. For that reason you should never ever turn those keys back in or throw them into the trash.

I've heard when you checked out all the keys that you've access to the rooms was no longer in effects the access and all your info was deleted after you've checked out.

It's an urban legend. Those key cards do NOT hold all your personal info, nor are they even capable.

Those keys do not contain that kind of information. There is no reason for the key to contain this kind of data. All that needs to be there is a code to allow the door to unlock.
