static electricity is deadly to ic chips also. static can reach up to thousands of volts and destroy the intricate circuitry of an ic. most ic's are controlled using low voltage dc.

Heat because of all the circuits in such a small space.

They can not be repaired if they fail.

Compared to what? You wouldn't use them for high power applications. They're useless as paperweights.
