Do I need a strong background in Algebra to succeed in Statistics? I'm having difficulty with "word problems" and memorizing the formulas. Hopefully, I'll have a cheat sheet of some sort to use.

This is an individual thing and is dependant on your abilities, however...

Algebra, namely the use of variables, is fundamental to the understanding and study of mathematics. If you are having trouble in Algebra, you will no doubt have more trouble in ANY discipline that deals with variables, proofs and other mid-level mathematics courses.

Good luck. If you have Algebra questions, just keep studying and using Yahoo! Answers!! :)

In a word, yes.

Sorry.

Stats build on everything else that you are already supposed to know and that includes algebra. Unfortunately, stats are vital to business.

Your best bet is to get every bit of additional help that you can scrape up. Take full advantage of your prof's office hours. Be there at every single opportunity. Let your prof know that you may have difficulty. Ask your prof what other materials you can use to help. Ask for names of tutors and get a tutor

If at all possible, drop another class so that you can spend more time on the stats. Talk with your counsellor and see how your class load can be rearranged to give you more time for this class.

Do the homework! Do more than you have to. Go to your tutor or the prof every time that you don't understand how to set up or solve a problem. With enough practice you will begin to recognize patterns - oh, if I'm given these pieces of information, then I need to solve it using this formula

Do the problems until you can do them in your sleep. Practice, practice, practice.

I would get some Algebra tutoring ASAP. Statistics relies heavily on algebra, and almost all stats questions are word-like problems, so get help now before you get yourself all jammed up in Stats.
