He's not getting fired. This is the last year of his current contract. He is probably just not getting a new contract from Mr. Steinbrenner. There's a difference.

Big difference, agreed. Still, it would take a miracle at this point to alter the inevitable -- Torre will not be managing the Yankees next season, and there will likely be a ripple effect in their negotiations with their free agents because of it.

Business is business, and if Torre isn't back next year than I would hope it was business decision. Steinbrenner is notorious for making threats of this nature. From his stand point the season was a failure, and somebody should have to be the goat. The manager is just that he manages what he is given in the means of players, but the General Manager makes the player choices. This being the double edge sword you can't fire on without firing the other. The Yankee will fill some gaps refit and be back next year same look doubtful, but it will be something to watch in the off season.

Well George Steinbrenner said that if the Yankees don't get to at least the ALCS Joe Torre will be fired.

Steinbrenner didn't say Joe Torre would be fired. He said that he is the highest paid manager in baseball and if they didn't winning, they (the Yankees) probably wouldn't bring him (Torre) back. I think as good as Torre has been in NY, it may be time to get a new voice in the dugout.

Because people just speaks upon what they hear or read,Remember this is a business and the more things (gossip) editors can write upon a topic like the Yankee's situation failing once again,Joe Torres getting fired or A-ROD, requesting a team change, it creates more intrigue to talk about.

he's getting canned...
the big man isn'T happy, the yankees havnt won a title since the beginning of the milenium... and its not torre's fault, torre isnt out there swinging at bad pitches like a-rod. he's not out there leaving men stranded, hitting into inning ending doubleplays. he's not pitching and giving teams early runs ... infact, torre deserves the manager of the year, the yankees iN june even july were out of the playoff hunt, they were a joke, torre somehow managed to turn it around and squeeze into the playoffs... and because of that, the whole team lacked energy out there into the playoffs, they were a tired team. ..
he's a hall of fame manager, and if he gets fired, i'm greatful for his yrs as manager and bringing championships and success to such a historic franchise

There is a difference, but the difference is insignificant. The end result is the same either way, he will not be coming back to the Yankees, and it was not his decision. Call it firing, call it not re-signing, call it whatever you want, he will not be with the team in the future
