Not at all.
The last thing my dad would do every morning on his way to work was lean in by bedroom door and say, in a calm, conversational tone, "Time to get up, Billy Boy." and then leave.
That failed to get me up until I got detention for a pile of tardies. Then when he did it, my feet were on the floor in a heartbeat.
If you're an awful parent, then so was my dad, and I've got a boot for the a*ss of anyone who calls my dad an awful parent.

No your not an awful parent. My teen age son is the same way and I feel they need to learn now that if they mess up they have to take the consequences. When they are on their own us parents can't shield them from getting in trouble at work or with their family and stuff so maybe they won't be irresponsible when they are all grown if they learn now...(wishful thinking)

No that doesn't make you a bad parent at all. If anything you're right she needs to learn the hard way that there are consequences for her actions.

No. Next time just go in there and pour ice cold water on her. See how fast she gets up. Trust me it works. Maybe tickle her nose with a feather or something that is so aggrivating that she can't ignore it. Not yelling though. I wouldn't suggest that. Have you talked to her about it? Ask her to make a concentrated effort to try to get up earlier. Or you could like try to wake her up earlier than usual and lead her to believe that it is actually later. that might get her out of bed.

That is funny. Went through that as well. Dad, I over slept can you write me an excuse. Sure, Dear Teacher, XXXXX over slept this morning because he wouldn't get out of bed when his alarm clock went off.
Dad that's not funny. Neither is their alarm going off 5 times every morning.
You can also try a bag of frozen marbles and pour then into their bed.

As a parent - no you're not awful. You're a champion- from 14 to 19 parents should be supplied with free tranquilizers.

That seems to be a quite sensible approach, for some discreet period of time at least...But do remain alert, throughout, especially to check, that the child does not get into some sort of depression.

No, they do need to learn the consequences of their actions or they never become well rounded adults.
