yea is pronounced "yay" and means yes. As in when taking a verbal vote and you count the "yea" and "nay" votes

yeah is pronounced "yeh" and is slang/vernacular for yes.

They are very closely related words and often interchanged.

It is both depending on which you mean to say! Yea is the word used for a vote, as in yea or nay while yeah is the slang for yes!

Yea is an old fashioned term originating from Old English - think of Sunday morning in church (ha ha as if!) - "Yea (yay) verily I say unto thee!".

Yeah is a more modern slang word for yes. You won't find Shakespeare yeah-ing around in his plays but you will find the word yea in there more than once or twice!

Yea (pronounced 'yay) = formal form of yes OR it can mean the same thing as hooray! As in, "Yea, we're going to Six Flags!!!"

Yeah (pronounec "yah") = slang for yes

It's a matter of preference...I use yeah, but I get annoyed at people using Ya....Ya and Yea/Yeah would definitely be pronounced differently. I did work with someone who actually said Ya....it was strange.
