Oh, sure, it's possible to deconstruct love. And one can certainly see the evolutionary advantage of having the capacity for love (necessary, but not sufficient, Phoenix, lots of mammals express a form of love - particulalry mother love), it is not possible to truly understand love at an intellectual level. Rather, pure love is experienced at both a very primitive pre-conscious level and at a very spiritual level. So I'd have to say that love is beyond reason.

So many people, so few Darwinists.
To believe something as universal as Love exists beyond or without reason is not reasonable.
Love is the act of considering the self interest of another as though it were your own.
It is what allows us to form couples, groups and nations.
The capacity to form groups is very important to our survival, procreation and prosperity.
So while many may Love foolishly, Love itself is a profoundly reasonable thing.

Love is beyond reason. Above the logic of the head is the feeling of the heart. The heart, where love emanates has reason, reasons of its own, which the head can never understands.

For me love, especially a pure, unconditional kind of love is neither sans reason nor beyond reason, but it allows us to open up to the realm of that which is super rational. It is a dangerous road, you have to be prepared for it (I bet you remember Plato's' chariot's myth).

Is this 'love' the attraction between man and woman or does it include other forms of love such as mother's love ?Either way I think these feelings are instinctive.Instincts have a purpose.We may not be aware of the rationale.

there are some ppl who weigh the pros and cons of a possible mate and contract references, check credit, police files, talk to her friends, etc...but some ppl just fall in love.
