Ooops. Yep. I was a latchkey kid and was home alone at about 9 years old I think. I lived in a very cold mountain town in an old house with no internal heat. Just a wood stove. The fire went out before I got home and the house was freezing. I couldn't strike the paper matchbook kind of matches at the time and couldn't get the fire re-lit. So I rolled up a newspaper, went to the kitchen stove to light it and the paper went up in flames FAST. I dropped it on the floor when I couldn't get it to the fireplace fast enough and it set the carpet and living room on fire. I was able to put it out with the fire extinguisher but it burnt the rug pretty bad and some furniture. I didn't really get in trouble (though I thought I would) and my mom was pretty understanding. I was lucky.

No but my sisters did. My mother, brother, Faith, and I were at the dentist leaving my other 3 sisters at home. They were suppose to have stayed in the living room playing the video games. Well when we got home it smell like something had been burned. Turns out that my oldest sister had come up with the brillent idea to light a paper towel on fire and watch it burn but it burned to fast and she tried to put it out by throwing it on the floor. Well obviously that didn't work. They had a huge burn spot on the carpet. It was really funny and the only reason we knew that they had messed up the carpet was because one of my sisters sat rooted to the spot and refused to get up until my brother pulled her up revealing the burnt spot. Needless to say my dad never found out about it.

Yes I lit a citronella candle on my front porch one time while I was sitting outside; I went inside and forgot about it and somehow it fell over into the cushioned chair. Needless to say the chair went up in flames and almost got to the house......Thank god I caught it in time, but still the fire department came out just to make sure everything was OK.

No, but at age 13 my son and his friend started a fire, while playing with gasoline in our garage. It's a wonder how two smart boys can get together at that age and not have a brain cell between them.

Yes, twice. Both times in the kitchen. The first time I caught my oven mitt on fire while I was wearing it. And the second time I caught a towel on fire.
