For example, an ad in a magazine said something like "Make up to $465 per day mailing postcards."

I would guess it really pays something like 1 cent per mailing, and you would have to send a few thousand a day to make anything worthwhile.

Unless it's an outright scam (you pay them for a starter kit or information and get nothing of value in return), then it's a commission-based business. This means you'll mail out postcards but only get paid if these postcards generate sales for the company. You should avoid all types of these ventures.

I knew someone who did that and the only way she made any money worth cashing was when she would have her friends and their kids come over and all would stuff them. That worked about twice.

Something to keep in mind for any job is unless they have a base pay, don't take it. Reason why is because you can work 10 hour and get paid $24. That is very common. The ones who got rich from it did it in less than pleasant ways.

If you have to work from home try going to garage sales then selling the stuff on eBay. That has become a very popular way to work from home.

Most of these ads are rip offs. You can however sometimes make a deal to do work like this for local businesses or campaigns. The salary though is not as high as 465/day.
