Hello... I am Brazilian, and I reply to you.
In Ian Fleming's novels and short stories, M call "Sir Miles Messervy". The 1st actor was portrayed M was Bernard Lee, from Dr. No to Moonraker (NOT counting 1967'S Casino Royale). Lee died in 1981, and in signal of respect, M is removed from Four Your Eyes Only. In this movie, M was traveled, in a homage of Bernard Lee.
From Octopussy to License to Kill (NOT counting Never Say Never Again!), the actor Robert Brown (the co-star of Bernard Lee, in The Third Man, a 1957 movie), was has portrayed the "Admiral Hargreaves" in The Spy Who Love Me. Don't if know if, this M is the "Admiral Hargreaves" promoved, or "Sir Miles Messervy".
When Pierce Brosnan start in the role of James Bond, he has the idea of change M to become a woman (he is not machist!), this M (portrayed by Judi Dench, personal friend of Bernard Lee) call Barbara Mawdsley, accordind the novelist Raymond Benson. In 2006's Casino Royale, Bond (Daniel Craig) is transported for out of your epoch, he start your carrer in 21st Century, with a female Bond (Judi Dench again), and is blond (hahahaha)!
The 1967's Casino Royale comic satire feature two Ms. The 1st is McTarry (John Huston), first name not revealed (possibly Miles). This M is married with Lady Fiona McTarry (portrayed by Deborah Kerr, but Kerr is the Agent Mimi, who assume the identity of Lady Fiona, after McTarry's death). McTarry is Scottish, and have eleven daughters, about sixteen and nineteen years. The 2nd M is Sir James Bond (David Niven), who assume the functions of M, after McTarry's death. The 1st order of the new M is: all Aggents and Trainees (including the girls) will have to be called James Bond 007, with the intention of confuse the enemy (the criminal organization Smersh). In this movie, Bond deceased.
And in Never Say Never Gain (the defamed remake of Thunderball), M's real name is not reveled, therefore is not "Vice Admiral Sir Miles Messervy". In this movie, M is portrayed by the actor Edward Fox.
A hug and bye!
