soldiers - (paid military) no because although civilians are killed, warfare is one armed force against another.
gangsters can be serial killers because they break the law by murdering - usually unsuspecting and unarmed victims - and - usually more than one to be considered 'serial.'
cops - (paid paramilitary) no because they're charged with protecting civilians and upholding the law - meaning, they go after the bad guys which sometimes involve the death of the criminal - or the cop.

A serial killer can come from any walk of life. Are you trying to generalize serial killers, that would be wrong because it doesn't fall under the description and meaning of being a serial killer.
Serial killers usually always attack the same type of victim. They are disturbed, they disasociate from their victims, they convince themselves that what they are about to do is ok because this is a thing now not a human being.
They have different time frames, some are never caught.
Soldiers kill only when they are commanded to shoot, and are doing a job keeping our countries safe and free from oppression.
Gangsters well I don't know if there are really any more gangsters out there like in the days of Capone I guess there must be still underground leaders, they kill to prove a point, take over power, get even.
Cops or police officers are on duty, and they protect our neighborhoods and streets, without them we would have chaos, and crime is always on the rise, please don't try and marginalize their role in society, we need them.

Gangsters maybe, because they murder. Cops and soldiers no because they justifiable kill during the course of their profession. Murder is defined as the unjust taking of a human life, and Cops and Soldiers in most cases don't "Murder" when they take a life. This is not to say that Cops and Soldiers can't be serial killers, it is all a matter of motivation. If the killing is criminal then anyone can become a serial killer regardless of profession. It's like the difference between the Human Society putting down a vicious dog, and what Michael Vick did, the moral context of the behavior gives it the label.

The link below lists traits of most serial killers. Serial killers are usually sociopaths with an agenda. Men who murder as serial killers get off on killing. They tend to be unable to lead a normal social life. Often, they are found to be psychotic (lose touch with reality). A cop, soldier, or gangster would not fit that pattern. If a cop were to lose touch with reality and begin killing for sport/to get off, then he'd be a serial killer. The same holds true for a soldier or gangster. It's not how many people you kill, but the reasons the killing is done. Generally, the reasons a serial killer murders people are off-the-wall and hard to grasp.

It's funny that you ask that question because some serial killers come from good family's and well educated. They hold leaership jobs in some cases and stem from Bank Presidents, to Law firms and even Military.
A psychoopathic individual comes from many forms as to the onset of the illness.
It can occur even after a successful marriage and great career, but something goes wrong and then that person gets twisted into a world of hell and to protect who they are and what they do,,they're extremely careful who they target and when they hit...leaving no evidence behind, no motive, no trace, no dna..nothing. The vicitim is dead and the FBI has a big major headache.
The answer to your question is yes...it's possible for these type of individuals to snap literally and turn to a life of a serial killer and then he returns home to his family sits down at the dinner table eats a nice roast and laughs with his wife and kids....this is no joke. It's a real as it gets.

What is wrong with you!!? Soldiers defend our freedoms and way of life, Police defend the victims and protect us from those who wish to inflict harm. Gangsters are the type of people Police protect us from. How old are you? I am thinking maybe 13? Or is this the type of utter crap that the public schools are teaching these days to promote the socialist agenda? Read a book, or a newspaper or something and put down the video game controller.

No. A serial killer is a very specific sort of individual. Killing many people does not make you a serial killer. Hitler, who was responsible for murdering millions, was not a serial killer.
A police officer who shoots in self defense, or to protect someone's life, is not a serial killer.
Gangsters are also not serial killers (generally not anyway) as their motives for killing are money and territory related.
Soldiers are also excluded as they are ordered to kill individuals.
A serial killer is a very different animal all together. Examples of serial killers include Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, and BTK. None of these guys were in law inforcement or gangs.

No, they are paid assassins doing their duty to our country. They got into this mess thinking they were going to get an education and now have to do these things to keep from being put in jail by skipping out on their 'duty' by an oil rich president who'd like to keep prices up. Not putting down the young people who joined the armed forces after the propaganda that they were fed about making the world a better place. War sucks and it has killed too many of our young men. Not one of them signed up to be a killer.

Soldiers don't kill they defend! and they kill a certain type over and over!
gangsters kinda keep it in family? so to speak same a soldiers regarding types of kills.
COPS? they maybe fire thier once a year, as a test! so i'd not consider them serial killers.
serial killers kinda look for same type, except the washington d.c. killers they looked at as game...

first of all, most cops never, ever in their careers use their guns on the job.
the few who do are only 'serial killers' in the same way a homeowner who has had to repel a series of home invasions could be.
gangsters? depends on the gangster.
soldiers? doing it for orders is considered by society a different; it is not generally a choice on their part - either orders, or to defend against an attack. so it does not seem to fit - the premeditation on their part is missing, even if yuo disagree with society's seperation.
