Just to show what a collosal waste of money signing Clemens was i have put together some numbers comparing Clemens to two free agent starters the Yankees could have easily signed for a fraction of what they had to pay Roger. Joel Piniero (Starting stats only) and Steve Trachsel. Both of these teams spent the majority of their seasons on teams with pathetics offenses and still managed just as many wins as the "Rocket" so image what the W-L totals would have been with arguably the greatest offense in baseball history
Roger Clemens - 6 W – 6 L, 4.18 ERA, 17 Starts, 99 Innings Pitched – 28 Million Prorated
Joel Piniero – 6 W – 4 L, 3.96 ERA, 11 Starts, 63.2 Innings Pitched – 4 Million
Steve Trachsel – 6 W – 8 L, 4.48 ERA, 25 Starts, 140.2 Innings Pitched – 3.1 Million
The Yankees will probably take him back next year for 15 million

EG, there's an old baseball saying -- "You could look it up" -- which for you is particularly critical advice, because clearly you did not.
Clemens was with Houston in 2004.
Rocket pitched in 17 Yankees postseason games from 1999-2003. His record: 7-4, with six NDs. Yankees record: 11-6. ERA: 3.24. He had some real clunkers in there -- ALCS G3 in 1999 against Boston, who lit him up while Pedro smoked the Yanks; ALDS G4 in 2000 against Oakland; ALCS G7 in 2003 against Boston again, 4 R in 3 IP, which Boone ended up winning in the 11th. But he had more stunning games -- 7 innings of 3 hit shutout ball against Texas in 1999; 8 IP, 2 hits, no runs, no walks, 9 K against the Mets in 2000 (which the bullpen almost blew); 5 IP, 1 hit, no runs against the monster 2001 Seattle team; 6+ IP, 1 run, 10 K against Arizona in Game 7, 2001; and an absolutely brilliant complete game, 1 hit, 15 K shutout against Seattle in 2000 -- probably the second-best pitched game in Yankee postseason history.
In potential clinch games: Clemens 2-1 with three ND, Yankees 4-2.
In potential elimination games: Clemens three ND, Yankees 2-1.
(These are sometimes the same game, such as a Game 7.)
The Yankees got a late-career Rocket, but he delivered full value in October (before this year) for the team.

No but the Yankees were in a desperate situation. They didn't see any other options but to sign him. He did give them some very strong outing but what if they would have brought up Ian Kennedy earlier? I think he may have been able to at least put up the same numbers as Clemens.

Typical Yankee fans will argue he was worth it cause he is one of the best pitchers of all time...and blah blah blah.
The Yankees in a attempt to one up the Red Sox signed him to this ludacris deal, they feel beating the Red Sox is more important than building a quality team. He is pathetic everytime he is getting roughed up in a playoff game he comes out with some mystery injury, be a man Roger and admitt you dont have it anymore. Walking off the mound with your head down.... what a shame. Go back to Texas and spend that 28 million dollars. Good Riddence

First off, he made $18 million this season, not $28 million. And if you want to know the truth, yes he was worth it. Yes, his personal stats sucked, but he lit a fire under the butts of the players, and as soon as he joined the team in early June, the Yankees were winning again. His presence alone helped the team win games, so in that respect, he was worth the money. He should retire though, he's 45, retire already Roger, do us all a favor, you're done, you're old, you're washed up, but you're a hall of famer.

When did anyone EVER think he was worth that 28 million?
Clemens may be my all-time favorite pitcher, but no one is worth 28 million.

I think a majority of the contract should be deferred to Phil Hughes.
