Lots of moral high-horses trotting about here, Scoundy - and making a helluva racket to boot! However, for the rest of us mere mortals - whose poop unfortunately DOES whiff on occasion - the answer is never quite so black and white. Monogamy can be a tall order these days, when life expectancy is so much higher than it used to be. Moreover it cannot seriously be viewed as an entirely 'natural' way of life for such a gregarious species as ourselves. The fact that love and sex are so often assumed to be one and the same thing doesn't help clarify the issue either. They are linked, without doubt, but not necessarily inseparable. It would be nice to be able to say it's for the individual to decide what is or is not acceptable behaviour within their own life. However the fact that, in this particular instance, one's decisions on the matter will affect at least one other person means there need be some order of open, prearranged understanding. But then, of course, we're no longer talking about "affairs", are we? - which are, by definition, secretive; hidden; and based in deceit . It really is a can of worms, Scoundy - this Q of yours that appeared so simple at the outset! Actually I think I'm losing my own thread here, and gradually drifting away up my own back passage. It is a perfectly straight forward question and therefore deserves a straightforward response: No, it would not seem from the general consensus that affairs are any more acceptable today than in previous times. They are, however, less shocking in general terms, and the penalties not normally as severe. I do believe they're every bit as damaging and hurtful as they ever were. It is the deceit implicit in the idea of an affair that makes it wrong. Perhaps it's the idea of monogamous marriage that needs re-examining. Now then, who's for group sex?

My Grandfather used to say... "it's 5:00pm somewhere in the world..." That was his excuse to start "imbibing" any time of the day. It's not necessarily a bad philosophy! ;oD

By His Majesty's Order of 1613 it is written: :No fellow of sound mind and body, under contract for remuneration of employ (either by self or known proprietorship) shall engage, ingest or otherwise consume any libation that would heretofore inhibit the judgment and/or motor functioning to which point render the fellow incapable of completing his duties. Therefore, by order of this Most Revered and Bejeweled Monarchy, no fellow shall begin consuming victuals and libations before such time as a solid day's work hath been completed. By His Royal Court~

(Since there's no mention of women in this perhaps somewhat dated edict, use your best judgment).

In our little country, we say it's when the first plane flies over. However, things have changed since those days. It's supposed to be after 12 noon.
