It's not considered part of Southeast Asia, but it's kinda close: Taiwan. Very safe there (I felt safe and secure everywhere I went in Taipei), modern but still full of tradition and culture, and its people are incredibly welcoming. A beautiful place all around.

Thailand. I spent two weeks in Thailand. On my flight there . . . I sat next to a lady from Taipei and she said Thai people are known for their friendly smiles. The Thai people are almost 100% Buddhist . . . and if you know anything about Buddhism . . . is a VERY peaceful religion / philosophy. You never hear of a Buddhist Extremist. Thailand means land of the free. Thai people in general are very tolerant.
