I think, legally speaking, that alimony, by nature, is only for a former spouse and for that spouse alone as ordered by a divorce court, whereas child support is another payment altogether.

If the former spouse takes on new dependents or has more children from another affair past the court ordered alimony commencement and before the termination of the compelled payments, this has nothing to do with the former spouse who is forced to pay; otherwise there is a perceived limitless incremental increase in payment amounts eventually causing catastrophic financial difficulties for the unfortunate paying former spouse.

The only reason why a person would be compelled to pay alimony or child support is due to a perceived legal responsibility arising from legal marriage. In other words, a person is only required to financially support the people he/she is responsible for and legally obligated toward, i.e., wife/husband and biological children.

Remember, the law’s intent is to be fair to both parties; however, this is only an intent, not necessarily reality in many parts of this country.

Alimony goes to the ex wife, not kids. And if you meant child support, NO he does not have to pay for grandkids.

Ummmmm NO!!

Only the children of the father are due any support, unless you get some off the wall case and judge who tries to impose a ridiculous ruling to make a point normally only children and only til they are of age to be considered an adult.

That would be a no - unless, of course, your partner adopted the grandchildren.

I can't imagine why he would unless they are the legal parents/guardians of said minors, and then it would be more like child support.
