Wish I understood this. Cashman is the one making the personel decisions. He is the guy signing and trading for players to play for Torre. Cashman is the guy who put that team in a hole by signing old guys to big contracts. Now the Yankees are stuck with guys like Damon, Giambi, and Farnsworth. Not to mention paying 17 million to Roger Clemens who certainly didnt earn his 17 million this year with a 6-6 record and an era over 4.00 in less than 100 ip.

Cashman has been given an extension on his leash to work the system that he wants, that is developing the young talent in the system rather than signing the highest priced free agent. He will be given at least two more years to see what comes of his theory. Torre will be leaving because the Boss feels that his message is getting lost, he is getting stale in NY, not that he is a bad manager but after you have been in one place for 12 years the players start to tune out the message. I think it will be best for all parties to go seperate ways, if Cashman does not get results from his strategy by 2009 then he is done as well. Now it will be interesting to see if Mattingly or Girardi gets the job.

I am not sure that Cashman or Torre is off the hook and I would not be surprised to see both go, you never know what Steinbrenner might do. It is ultimately the responsibility of these two guys and when things don't go as planned they take the heat. Right or wrong that is life in the fast lane.

The real question is, why is Torre getting the boot and 0 for 10000000 in the playoffs A-Rod getting a raise? Joe Torre is one of the few people in the Yankees organization I haven't detested, an all around good guy. Maybe it's time for Steinbrener to sell out and move to Florida.

I'm not a Yankees fan, but I think Torre is awesome. Getting rid of him would be the dumbest thing the Yankees could to. 12/12 in postseason appearances. 10 AL East Titles. 4 World Series championships. Plus these last few years were probably his best managing jobs yet as he's overcome so many things such as injuries and stories that have affected things outside the clubhouse. Plus the last few years the Yankees have started April out poorly and put themselves in a hole early. It seems every year they start out using over priced free agents, and make a comeback in the second half with their young, homegrown talent. Why not start the year with the young homegrown talent. That's why I think Cashman should be gone. Quit going after the overpriced free agents. If you have learned anything from the last 5 years, it's that having the highest payroll guarantees you of nothing. You keep going back to your youth year after year anyway.

Joba Chamberlain, Phil Hughes, Shelly Duncan, Ian Kennedy, etc. Torre didn't rebuild the farm system. These guys and others are going to save us a load of money, and keep us competitive for years.
