I recently found out that my mum is making us move as soon as possible to a completely diffrent state, im really excited about moving cuz i hate MI, But I have 2 dogs, two cats, 2, birds, and 2 horses. im not that worried about the birds or the cats because i can take one cat with me. But Im appsolutely devistaed cuz we cant take our horses. Im only 16 and these are the first horses Ive ever had. my mare ive only had for juat under a year, but i share with her a magnificent bond, I sat all night last night in out pasture balling my head off. I dont want to leave them behind and I know none of you can do anything for me but i just needed to say it to some one.... thanks for listening....

Been there, done that. I was a bit older than you are but we had 21 head of horses.
You'll do what you can and try and find good homes for your animals. You've gotten some wonderful ideas from people here. We sold ours at auction and I ran and hide under my bed and sucked my thumb and cried.
But.......Life goes on and gets better. Hard times do make you a better person if you let them and you'll come out just fine in the end. I lost my pets, my friends and my home and in the end wonderful things happened to me that wouldn't have if we had stayed in Illinois. I know because all this happed almost 40 years ago. I'll admit it was a tough year and I thought it would never get better. But now I have a farm, a wonderful husband, 2 grand kids, fantastic friends and more. Hang in there!!!

I'm really sorry to hear about your situation. We just moved from MI last year and I can understand why you are moving. The economy is horrible there! We moved to Houston, TX and horses are expensive here. Do you have a friend that can take your horses? Have thought about donating them to a handicapped riding program where they will be taken care of? Also, you can probably find a new barn, trainer, etc. in your new state that would be willing to have you come work off lessons for a little work down at the barn. I know you must be hurting right now and for that I am truly sorry...I hope you will be able to keep your cat. Keep your head up and good luck with your move! We are thinking about you and wishing you the best!

I'm really sorry. I know how it feels because when I was 16 my favorite horse died (of a bad injury, not natural causes!) It broke my heart and I couldn't figure out why God had done that to me. It took me a long time to heal.

When I went away to college, I had to leave my horse behind on the ranch. I finally sold him to my dad, because I knew he would stay there and be a great ranch horse for my dad. Dad still owns him but now that I'm married we live 20 hours away from the ranch, and I rarely get to see my horse.

When I moved here, I started looking around, and my husband (then boyfriend) said his parents had land we could build a fence to keep horses on. I bought a mare and started training her. Then he bought a well broke old mare, and then we also rescued a little weanling at an auction. So we are happily back into horses.

I would say just do your best to find a great home for your horses, where you can trust the new people to really take good care of them. Then when you get to your new home, start looking around. Even if you have to get a job and work for a year to save up for a new horse, at least start planning. Making plans will get you excited and interested in moving to the new place, and pretty soon the sadness you feel will start to fade. Not that you won't ALWAYS remember your first horses, but you can rest assured you gave them a good home and they are happy. Hope it gets easier for you. Good luck!

You might try and find a new home for her. I know how you feel about having to give up a horse. Just a few months ago I had to sell my barrel racer that I had had since i was ten years old. I had her for five years and then we had an accident at a barrel racing competition and fractured her pastern bone. She healed, luckily, but she would only be able to trail ride and do walk, trot. We have seven other horses and we couldn't afford to keep a horse through the winter that wasn't going to bring me through another year of showing. I cried when the trailer left the barn yard but now i know she is well taken care of and has a good home. I hope you can find a good home for your mare too. Good Luck!!

See if there is a Children's Farm or Zoo that will take the horse if he is well mannered. Call the Humane Society in your area and see if they can take him. With both places you will know he will be well treated.

Why haven't your parents got a plan of where you are going to?
I wouldn't uproot my familt and pets to 'land where it takes you'
It seems a little irrisponsible no wonder you are worried!
Ask them what their intentions are, and let them know your fears.
If they know all this surely they can arrange for the horses to come too?
I know I would!

Is it possible to sell her or lease her to someone in your new state, where you could still go see her from time to time?
