If Americans are forced to hear official in the US use titles for foreign persons and give titles like "the honorable.." should any individual in the US have the right to such a title. Are titles an issue of freedom of speech? Why should our government deny any American claiming the title of Lord or King when it acknowledges these titles itself.

I prefer to be called Lord John Doe, thank you.

First of all, since there is no US title of Lord, you would not be allowed to use it. American citizens cannot accept titles from foreign governments such as that. Secondly, even those foreigners who hold such titles didn't simply wake up one day and decide to call themselves that. That simply isn't how it works.

BTW, a previous answerer assumed that you're a liberal. It seems to me from your attitude that you're a conservative. I guess with a question this pointless, it doesn't really matter.

The use of "Honorable" is based on custom and protocol, not law. If it was mandated, it would be a title of nobility, forbidden by the Constitution.

Just as you are free to call former presidents Mr. or Jimmy or George or Bill, they are free to call you Mr. or whatever your first name is.

If you make Lord your first name, federal government agencies will likely address you as Mr. Doe, and the mail will come to Mr. Lord J. Doe.

Why not go all the way and name yourself His Imperial Majesty King John Doe, if you want to push it?

You're hilarious.... I love liberals always stretching the intent of the bill of rights to suit their needs.

You can demand anything you want to, you can even choose not to answer when not addressed in the preferred manner.

I also have the right to ignore your idiotic demands and considered you simply another nut job trying to make a ridiculous point.

{edit} Stiggo629, my impression that this person is a liberal comes from the demands of rights not fully understood. A typical liberal trait. I may be wrong, but I agree in this question it's pointless.

Your freedom of speech may give you the right to call yourself "Lord," but other people also have the freedom to not call you "Lord." The biggest part of freedom of speech is that you can't force someone to say something.

You can demand anything in a free society. and I think You have earned a title. But Yahoo might delete this message if I type the title I think you deserve. God bless America!

If Jesse Jackson can be a fake "reverend" you can be a fake Lord
