PS3 will win the console war, no doubt. Xbox 360 and Wii are so weak from technological point of view, that in couple of years they won't be capable of dealing with serious graphics. GTA IV, for instance, isn't even announced for Wii - this toy won't be able to cope with the game's requirements. Xbox 360 is getting GTA IV, however, the game is going to be released on several DVDs - Xbox 360 owners will have to interrupt gaming process and switch discs (Rockstar complained about this issue). Only PS3 will have it on single BD-DVD.
Let's compare PS3 and XBOX 360:
A third of XBOX 360 (33%) are malfunctioning right from the start. PS3 return rate is only around 0.2%.
PS3 has 8 (7+1) kernels in Cell processor, Xbox 360 -only 3.
PS3 uses advanced tech called Blu-Ray, one disc can store up to 54 gb (in the future - up to 200 gb), Xbox 360 - regular dual layer DVD-9 (8.5GB). It's possible to get HD-DVD (max. - 30GB) for 360, but it'll cost you around 180$, in this case Xbox is going to be MUCH more expensive, than PS3.
Calculations per sec - PS3 - 51-billion-dot-product-operati... per second
Xbox 360 - 33.6-billion-dot-product-opera... per second
PS3 has full media support - USBs, built-in card reader (except 20 gb version), ability to use printer and so on.
Xbox 360 has USBs and only 2 memory slots.
PS3 supports up to 7 Bluetooth Controllers
Xbox 360 - up to 4 Controllers
PS3 - wi-fi included (except 20 gb version)
Xbox 360 - wi-fi will cost you around 100 $
Graphics are stronger in PS3, due to RSX chip, that was developed by Nvidia exclusively for PS3. To estimate its power (roughly) - take 6800 Ultra nvidia graphics card, multiply it by 2 - get a result, still PS3 stronger, because 6800 Ultra runs on 400 Mhz and RSX runs on 550 Mhz.
PS3 uses technology from AGEIA company. It does to physics of the game same thing GPU (videocard processor) does to graphics. This thing is on sale for PC(special card). The price is around 350$. There is no such thing in 360.
Xbox 360 is widely known for so-called "red ring of death" problem - it gets overheated easily. My PS3 was running for more than 8 hours non-stop with no problems. Sometimes Xbox 360 becomes so overheated, that thermopaste on CPU melts, drips on motherboard and successfully shortcircuits it.
Besides all of this, I've seen disassembled Xbox 360 - regular PC architecture - Billy Gates is an uninventive nerd (as usual).
When I saw disassembled PS3 - it was a surprise - smart architecture, good cooling (don't buy external PS3 coolers - they make everything worse - original system is good), etc.
In 2008 PS3 will get more than 300 games, including Metal Gear Solid 4, The Agent and other great exclusives. Here is the good link to the future PS3 releases. http://ps3.ign.com/index/release.html......
PS3 online is free, Xbox 360 - you have to pay.
There were reports, that 360 scratches discs. No reports on that in PS3.
In some countries people call Xbox 360 "Coffin 360".
The funniest thing, that right now there are no games for PS3, that show full potential of the console.
On PS3 you can install other OS, such as Linux Yellow Dog, Ubuntu and others. Sony officially lets you do it. There is no such thing in 360.
PS3 HDD can be replaced easily with any 2.5" SATA 5400 RPM HDD (used in laptops). 250 GB will cost you around 170$. In 360 you have to buy exclusive HDD, where 20GB will cost you 100$.
Sony expects PS3 to stay on the market for, at least, 7-10 years. Also Sony reduces price now. Soon there is going to be cheaper 40GB version of PS3.
Sony constantly upgrades PS3 software (free updates for OS) - you get new functions and improvements.
PS3 controller (sixaxis) has a motion control - you move controller - game responds. Wii has it, Xbox 360 - doesn't. PS3 controller is getting vibrocontroller soon (Dualshock 3).
I didn't mention Wii, because it's so weak, no point to talk about it. Leave it for kindergarten and casual games.

My Bro has a PS3 and I just got a 360. The main thing that bugs me about the PS3 and has always been a problem with Playstations is the super long load times. It takes like a minute to 2 minutes to load up a madden game, while on my 360 it takes like 15 seconds.
360 is cheaper but it comes with less out of the box, your controller comes without a charger so you have to keep putting in batteries, get rechargables, or buy the 20 dollar charge kit. It also doesn't come with a HD player, that also must be bought seperate.
The PS3 comes with a controller that can be charged right out of the box. It is also able to play blu ray right out of the box. But I personally rather use HDDVDs. Anyway it really boils down to what you want. I, myself, just bought the xbox 360 for Halo 3 and Madden 08.
I think you'd be pretty satisfied either way or if you just looking fun and don't care much get a Wii, those are fun for everyone. Whatever you do I would hold out another month and wait until Black Friday so you can get a sweet deal.

A good gaming laptop will have better graphics, and you'll be able to browse the internet and use it as a normal computer too. But if you are only going to use it for gaming then don't get a laptop. They are way too expensive. But if you do need a laptop for university or something then that may be a good choice. My friend got a good gaming laptop for €850. For that price you can get a ps3/xbox and a good flat screen to play on. As for xbox vs ps3, ps3 is a lot better, in my opinion. 1) More exclusives. Games like Killzone, Uncharted, Little Big Planet, Ratchet and Clank are really good. I have been playing Killzone 3 online for a while now and im completely hooked! 2)Better graphics- In my opinion 3)Blu-ray. Watching blu-ray DVDs on a HD tv is amazing! 4)Less likely to be faulty. Although the new Xbox's are meant to be more reliable than the old ones. 5)You can run linux on it. 6)Psn is free. I don't understand why everyone says Xbox live is better, i can play online with my friends on psn and chat with them aswell all for free. I don't see why i should have to pay €50 per year for it. You will have to pay more for a ps3 than an Xbox but you will not be disappointed. My friends and I have both consoles and yet we are always playing Ps3.

It really well come down to if you already have an HD TV? If so then you might want to lean towards the PS3. The future does look good for the PS3 but how long for the Future to really come to the present is another question. The Xbox 360 is a good present system well be fine for the next few years. Is Blu Ray something you want in the future? or were you thinking more HD-DVD.
It really comes down to if you are buying for the now! (Halo 3, Rainbow Six Vegas, Gears of War) or buying it for the future (like next spring is when most of the "good" PS3 games start to come out. and who knows, maybe the price well drop again by then?

Better in this case is a relative term. Better library currently = 360. Better library to come = PS3. Better exclusives currently = 360. Better exclusives to come = PS3. Better built = PS3. Better usability = PS3. Better future of games = PS3. Better hardware specs = PS3. Better price (out of the box) = 360, better price (overall) = PS3.
So as you can see it's relative as to the better system. All depends on what is that you're talking about as far as better. The PS3 is the better all around machine, with Blu-Ray, and the games coming up.

if price does not matter, get the ps3, because although the 360 looks better right now, the future is in the playstation 3, you will be wishing you got a ps3 if you get a 360, trust me

PS3 has better technical specs, but the Xbox360 has more popular game titles as of today. Also the PS3 supports blue-ray dvds, while the 360 can play HDDVDs. I really comes down to what you are looking for in a machine.

PS3 easily. There are loads more Blu-Rays out than HDs. The graphics are amazing and there are some great new games coming out for it really really soon! Eye of Judgement is coming out this month and I think it's totally interactive :)

You can't go wrong with either. For me its the 360 and Halo 3. It's all I play. Sold all my other games. Don't need any more either. Have you played the Wii? If I was going to get another system I'd get the Wii. It's more fun and less serious than the "big two".
