While it would help a bit to know which models of Turion X2 and Intel Core 2 Duo you're looking at, I answered a similar question yesterday (here); Tom's Hardware (tomshardware.com) did a comparison test of Turion X2 and Core Duo/Core 2 Duo CPUs. Their testing found the Turions roughly comparable in performance to the lower end Core Duos, while being 25%-30% slower than the Core 2 Duos. However, if you're budgeting for a computer running Vista and the choice is between more CPU speed and more RAM, get the RAM - Vista is the most RAM-hungry operating system released in the history of computing thus far on Earth.

The Core 2 Duo will run faster, more efficiently and with longer battery life than any AMD with comparable specs and will do so whether you have 1 or 2 gb's of ram.

The AMD processors have individual cache for each processor. The Intel's 'combined' the cache so that each processor can use the entire amount for either processor.

Current CPU's and RAM are so fast, it really doesn't matter.
Buy what best suits your needs.
