Buy a Desktop computer if you use your computer more (for more number of hours)
Reason: The delicate notbook screen has less life. You may finish it early and replacing costs great amount. But, replacing a monitor might not cost very much.

Buy a notebook if you use less and want to take it out for work or whatever
Reason: Notebooks are light weight and you can carry them along with you. Desktop computers cannot be carried so easily

Desktop : Assemble a computer with MSI-DDR2ram mother board and AMDa processor. Its the best.

Notebook: Buy Toshiba

It would depend on your needs.

Choose a laptop if you plan to be mobile and not use it for heavy gaming. Laptops can me be more expensive when stuff breaks also, due to the small components and form factors.

Choose a desktop if you are not worried about being mobile or will be moving from location to location for long periods. Components in a desktop can be interchanged for the most part if everything is a standard form factor.

As for model recommendations, I only work with custom built machines, so I have no recommendations for desktops, however if you are going with a laptop, I would stick with HP, Dell, or Toshiba. With any system they are only as good as their warranty and the cost invested.

A desktop is ALWAYS the better choice. Desktops are cheaper and are faster with more storage then notebooks, and you can easily upgrade a desktop, not possible with notebooks.

The rule is when buying a computer (from a decent brand: packard bell, dell, hp, ...) , the more it costs the better it is.

I would go for a dell desktop, they always have sweet deals and the customer support and warranty is good.

The very best dell computers are the xps series now. They start at 1000 up to 5000+.

the pc with the Q6600 is greater perfect, that processor is between the final you may get. with out spending 1000's for a center 2 Qaud extreme. yet to be hnoest a 9600GT is a waste of money a 8800GT is £20 greater fee-effective and a tiny bit greater perfect ;).
