Free service is offered usually by the installer, not the manufacturer. The boiler may be required to have regular servicing in order to maintain the guarantee, some manufacturers insist on it, or the guarantee is invalid. New build is no guarantee that it has been installed correctly, I recently serviced a new boiler which defected on 7 points of the regulations (it was new build and reported to corgi), If you find an approved engineer (approved by the manufacturers, info on thier website) you will be told if there are regulation issues, and who installed it, if there is a problem, and they can get the installer back to rectify, as you are not likely to call the installer, and he is not likely to be offering a free service, you will have to pay for the initial service. The company I work for give a manufacturers 5 year g/tee, and 1st service is free, and offer a good breakdown cover after the g/tee runs out. You should always try and get these when installing new. Oh, and you don't need a hoover to service a boiler.
P.S. Breakdown cover does not mean they will replace the boiler, read the terms and conditions.

You don't say if your boiler is one of the better known makes. If it is - do go to the manufacturer's website. And phone their customer care.
What you will find out from them is whether your boiler is registered and what length of guarantee it has - could be as long as 5 years from new, depending on how it was installed and by whom. Then you can find out what their servicing policy is and the costs etc. during guarantee and after. Then you will have real information to compare other recommendations with - say from a local plumber or other "gas" companies that want to sell you their deals.

Best to have it serviced NOW and every year, the reason for having it serviced is that it was'nt serviced when installed, (the builder saves money )
It should be gas analised and set-up in-situ in order to save you money in fuel

Better to get it done annually. If its not yet a year old....check with the manufacturer....you may be able to get the first service free of charge, or at a reduced cost! Whatever....it's well worth getting done for your own peace of mind!
