As part of a science project, I need to encase a wireless router in various materials to see how those materials block the 2.4 Ghz signal (802.11g) and if so, how much. I was looking online for such a topic and am having issues finding this topic online. It continually comes up with a wifi paint, which is not part of my project.
I was wondering if anyone can steer me in the right direction as far as searching for this topic goes. Please do NOT say type it into a search engine. I am looking for specific sites. Thanks in advanced.

build a faraday cage. Construct it like a phone booth, or a small box. go to lowes, home depot, where ever and buy some copper mesh. the tighter the mesh, the more signal that gets blocked. or you could layer it.

Hi, I dont know of any specific sites but what do you need them for. Do the experiment and record your results.

-Get a wireless router
-Get a Laptop with WIFI
-Download Netstumbler from Http://www.netstumbler.org
-Connect to the router and start netstumbler
It will tell you the signal streangth in DBm's, thats your control base reading.
-Now Put the router in various enclosures made of different types of materials and then waite a controlled amount of time, say 1 min, to allow the signal to level and record the results.
-Continue doing this until you have recorded the results with all the materials you want to use.

Thats it...... Should take you 30 min at most......

I've actually noticed that pine needles, block 2.4 Ghz frequencies. I discoverd this by accident as my house has several pine trees. And when I was behind them I would lose signal, as I moved away from the tree I got my signal again.

Lead shielding FTW.
Seriously, if this is your science project, you should already have some idea which materials block electromagnetic radiation well, and which don't. Just build the casings out of materials that do.

Metal box or metal wire grounding to the earth will block the signal. The painting systems you see a just conductive paint that is grounded.

You could try changing the WIFI canal on the router.

The denser the material, the more your signal is blocked. I think...
