Chien-Ming Wang allowed 4 runs in game four of the ALDS. The final score was Cleveland 6, New York 4. The "winning run" that the Indians scored was the fifth run, with the sixth being extra. As far as Wang is concerned, the game's winning run was not scored against him, but against Mike Mussina (who allowed 2 runs after Wang left). So why was Wang credited with the loss?

Noryb - I didn't realize that you could get the win if your team only retained the lead.... So Wang could have given up one run and left the game, with the Indians winnings 1-0, and both the Indians and Yankees could've scored 10 more runs, but providing that the score was never tied, Wang would get the loss for allowing that first one... I checked the rules, and you're right - http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/official_info/official_rules/official_scorer_10.jsp

Wang got the loss because his team was losing when he left the game. Mussina may have given up some runs, but since the Yankees never tied the score or regained the lead after Wang left, he is credited with the loss.

Wang was responsible for giving up the lead which was never relinquished.

It's not the specific run which decides the game, it's the run that takes the lead for the last time.

That's who the game winning goal and losses work in Hockey I believe.

Baseball is all about when the run scores that puts the winning team ahead for the last time.

Not to mention, he really deserved the loss there.

Wang got lit up, once again. What a horrible choice to throw him in there on 3 days rest. GO TRIBE!

because the yankees did not tie the game up, he was losing the game when he left. so he gets the loss.

example . if the yankees would have come back and won the game after he was taken out, he would not have won the game either. if they would have tied the game or won he would of got a no decision. ..
