How are good qualities like consideration and care for others, honesty, practicality and practical acumen, compassion for others, love, strength to stand firm and refuse to bend down to injustice, being kind, noble and ability to live a good peaceful life get developed ?

What motivates people to put an effort to develop and nurture some or all of such good qualities ? What keeps them enthused and encouraged and what gives them perseverance in a life which is a quest for good qualities and virtues ?

Arcadegamedetail ... you can't be serious.

I agree that good parenting plays a role in buidling one's ethical and moral life. I also agree that with parents' examples children learn good qualities.

But we know that following such a path of morality, ethics and honesty, caring etc. has a few materialistic benefits. Though one gets intangible benefits like 'peace of mind', contentment or satisfaction. But don't you think it is still challenging to remain on the path of leading a good, honest, sincere, good, practical life with right and good qualities and virtues in this world where there are so many distractions, aversity to one's following goodness when there are no significan material rewards or recognition ? In this arduous life on the earth how does one keep oneself motivated and glued on the path of goodness ? Where does one get motivation, encouragement and energy to do the right thing as best as one practically can and avoid falling prey to what is bad, evil or unjust ?

A person chooses to be a good person. One person can change the world, good or bad, so why not good? They choose to be good because the world can be a better place. You have to really decide within yourself that you want to be a good person and help make the world a better place.

I think that lying to people is wrong. I am guilty of it myself. I have recently lied to my Mother and it is kind of a big one. The feeling of having a lie hanging over you is the worst feeling in the world. I am struggling with telling her the truth. I know I must, but I am trying to wait for a time that feels right.

I think what motivates people is having a clean conscience. That is a really good feeling. You feel like such a good person when you do things for others or you tell them the truth no matter how hard it may be. It's just a better way of life overall.

A very interesting question! People are motivated to do honesty and live with a good moral and ethical values because virtue is a form of acting and a form of ability. The more a man can preserve his being and seek what is useful to him, the greater is his virtue. A system of morals that teaches a man to be weak is worthless. The foundation of virtue is no other than the effort to maintain one's being and man' s happiness in the power of so doing.

This is indeed a great question to be answered. Thanks for asking. Have a great day.

It's like the saying "do unto others as you would have done unto you" it's common courtesy, we are always learning from each other, past generations, newer generations, it's the common knowledge we all know, it's just some practice or use it more often then others. Of course it's also embred in our life in one way or another, by our grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, friends, and I suppose faith has a part in it, but some have no faith, and that's ok it's the common knowledge that we all share, some people have no morals or values, or that great of quality or virtues, and those are overloading our prisons.

All the qualities you listed stem from good parenting. How your home-life as a child was.

What motivates them to put all that effort, and encourages them to persevere? I firmly believe it is self satisfaction, and the great benefits they reap by behaving and applying all these qualities.

For those that believe in G-d, believe that He has a part in it too.

How do you motivate a child to learn? By giving them treats, a prize, and praising them. They see the benefits they reap from learning and behaving.

Theoretically speaking it is the same for adults. Adults have the very same feelings, and emotions as children. The only difference is, is that adults have learned to self control.

There are a number of motivations cited here. Most can be condensed to:
1.Culture (including parents), e.g. "I was brought up to..."
2.Instinctive (including evolution), e.g. "humans are inherently good"
3.Feelings (including common sense), e.g. "being nice makes me feel good"
4.Invent it themselves with a goal of self interest, e.g. "there is benefit to being nice"

The problem is that none of these motives have any moral authority behind them. For the first three, the motives comes to us by way of feelings and feelings have no moral authority over us. The fourth motive isn't moral at all because the motive is selfish.

If our moral standards come to us by way of feelings, we will always rationalize and justify our behavior so that it fits into the standard that we freely adjust in accordance with circumstance. That is the way someone can go 50 years without doing anything wrong. Even criminals planning their next crime think themselves to be basically good. It's all a matter of adjusting the standard.

Morality requires a moral authority to whom we are obligated. God is the only possible moral authority.

I imagine that I chose this existance for a reason. There are no coincidences. I keep coming back just like I'm in school and I want to graduate at the top of my class. Even if I'm the only one in it. Maybe I'm not an only child but I am 'Daddy's Girl' and I want him to be proud of me. He asked me to come to this Hell and teach the truth to the children. I didn't have to come and I knoew from before what I was getting into but I would do anything for my Dad. He sees me hurt and cry but this IS Hell. All he can do is promise that I'll always have all that I need to find my way home. He wants my light to be a beacon for others to follow. I'm crazy? I agree...I did this on purpose!!! I 'knoew' is not a mistake. It's HIS word for wisdom. It implies prior and future awareness.

Since I am one of the people you speak of, the answer is very simple - it is knowing you are doing the right thing.
I had an awakening at age 10 that started me on my path; spiritual but not religious. Life is so much easier without the excess baggage that lies, deceit and hatred bring with it. I have no skeletons in my closet; done nothing I'm ashamed of in over 50 years of living.
Try it. The change it brings about is simply amazing.

Now in debate and politics you are able to desire to maintain on with the belief of advantageous judgment. lots of the bible's teachings will possibly no longer sound logical to others and you are able to desire to understand this. To develop right into a stable debater you are able to desire to understand the thank you to connect with others on their own point. Make your speech the place they might word your fact rather of purely asserting God hates gays to illustrate. returned up each fact with good judgment and know-how. know-how isn't continually easily won yet by the years you would be waiting to advance non aggressive concepts to help get your factor during whilst realistically its would desire to be purely what the opposing social gathering would not decide to take heed to.
