i put a bid to my broker to short sell nifty futures at 5020 , and if that time the market rate is 5070, will it automatically sell at 5070. On interogation, he told me that this is the rule position. Can anyone clarify this please ? Its urgent

Two things - this is the Renting & Real Estate section, so I think you've got the wrong section of Yahoo Answers.

It depends on if you put in a market order or a limit order or exactly what your instructions were. If you put in a market order to short shares, then the transaction should have gone through at 5070. If you placed a limit order to sell at 5020, it probably didn't execute.

If you deal with a broker, communication is key. Tell them exactly what you want.
