Of course not, but often people think that mentally challenged people somehow deserve to be treated in a less than nice way, and it's sad. I guess if a mentally challenged person is ill treated, then that's all they will remember and will always think that 'normal' people are mean - therefore, they will be defensive or rude to them in return.

Its not right for anyone to treat any one not as nice. But everyone has their reasons for why they treat people, or certain people, badly and it happens in all different people.

Have you seen the movie I Am Sam. About that mentally challenge guy who is raising his daughter on his own and she gets taken away from him when she is 7 because he only has the mind capacity of a 7 year old. He ends up going through a crazy custody battle. Anyway, he gets frustrated with his lawyer at one point and says how normal people are perfect, have no heart, and don't know what it feels like to be hurt and judged daily the way he has.
Then the lawyer comes back at him and tells him how hard it is being normal, having a husband sleeping around with someone more perfect than her, and a son that hates her and cries when he has to go home with her, etc.

It is human nature for people not to understand it each other or to fear what they don't understand...to a point where it turns to hate. Whether you're mentally challenged or "normal", not treating some people as nice as others is not right period.

Personally the less mentally challenged party which you termed as normal developed people..should have a reasonable tolerance level towards these special people..I guess..normal developed people will never be able to feel what these people feel..thus emphathy and patience is the call of the day.Count our blessings and i just saw this on the Net minutes before answering YA..Do not rejoice at others misfortune for it will be yours similarly.Life is about awareness , caring and above all LOVE.All the best

It depends...A great majority of normally developed people is tolerant towards those who are mildly different...Now, it's hard
to determine how someone, who's mentally challenged perceive majority's treating...There were people in history of the human kind, who were considered sane, some of them were actually even leaders of some great nations...People I'm talking about used to nurse some kind of resentment towards humanity in general, they felt cheated for all those privileges some people are entitled to by their social status, while they were bound to fight them out...( Napoleon and Hitler would be the obvious specimens ) I think we can argue over Hitler's mental health; while he was functional on one hand, he was greatly emotionally handicapped...But let's get back to your question; is it right or not ?! I guess one has got to have some kind of perception of "right" and "wrong" in order to be able to take a stance; for instance, I could say it's wrong, but here I find myself in controversies, because I'm not in their skin, got it ?!

Pasta Sauce what is this with questions about people being nice or not? People are not nice whether they have a disability or not. Some people are mean and some people are nice. It has nothing to do with being disabled.

It is not nice for anyone to treat anyone badly - disabled or nondisabled.

You can ask this question a hundred different way and the answer will still be the same.

No it's not. No one should treat anyone with disrespect. If the mildly mentally retarded person knows that he/she is being disrespectful to another person, then it's wrong. Have a disability is no excuse for poor behavior if you are aware of your behavior.

Of course. They have every right to retaliate against those people who transgress against those who hurt them in anyway, shape or form.Who R we to stop them from self-administering justice for themselves. I'm one of those people;I happen to suffer from a 'hidden disability' too.

No I don't think that's right at all. I think despite how anyone is, typical or handicap we all should be treated the same.
