I guess that depends... among the kids and young adults of Generation Y, it may seem that way. But then again, the English language is constantly changing... we've gone through Middle English and are now speaking Modern English (Shakespeare wrote in Modern English, and if you've ever read his masterpieces as they were written, you might say that we've already moved into a new sub-category of the English language). Maybe this is the new English. And... that would suck.

No it's not. Modern grammar books published today reflect the actual utterances and conversations of English-speaking peoples on both sides of the Atlantic which are culled from speech, books, newspapers and these are stored in a computer database called corpus. This kind of grammar is now called descriptive (how English is actually spoken) as opposed to what used to be called prescriptive grammar (how English should be spoken). Definitely, grammar will not be obsolete for people who want to speak and write well.

"Grammar" will always exist, although it is quite fluid. Read Hall's "Linguistics and Your Language" for a concise and complete explanation.

No it isn't. We're just becoming more lazy. We find short cuts in the language and embrace it.

Sadly, it does seem so.
As does punctuation & spelling.
Please don't start me off on diction & pronouciation...
So reminds me of Prof.Higgins', "Why can't the English teach their children how to speak? !
