i have a book called Mediterranean tortoises by lance jepson, the first chapter is about how a tortoise works,it shows pictures of the skeleton and a cross section showing the position of lungs bladder, bowel ect, it is a most interesting read especially as i was interested in how a tortoise works inside the shell and now i know i feel it gives me a better understanding of my tortoises. i found my book at www.amazon.co.uk and looked under the tortoise section. you can view the books first so you may be able to see what a tortoise looks like without buying the book. hope this helps , best of luck.

The skin of the Tortoise is apart of its shell - it is attached to it's shell just like your nail is attached to your finger....just don't try and remove it!!
I find the link below which shows the inside of a Tortoise shell. Not nice but I hope it helps.

Thanks to years of cartoons, people seem to think turtles and tortoises can remove their shells- but they cannot.
The shell is formed of the rib cage, backbone, and breastbone and is covered with several layers of skin and tissue. The backbone is fused in shell, and the backbone runs through it. You cannot remove the shell from a living tortoise.

TV is produced to the lowest common denominator - i.e., the common IQ of the general public, whereas a written booklet is written to the highest common denominator

i dont know what kind he is, but my roommate has one just like him. you can feed him lettuce but it has no nutritional value. carrots are good. mealworms are for sure the best and favorite. some people feed theirs boiled egg whites too. they need a ton of veggies and fruits though. some will eat tomatoes and bananas(not the one i live with) and watermelon and apples are well liked. you should really invest in a uv lamp so he doesnt get soft shell.
