Sounds painful. I don't think anyone here could tell you for sure what is wrong. So I think seeing a doctor, as you say you know you should, is the best option.
If you don't have insurance though, you could try giving it a few days to see if it will improve.

i have broken toes several times my experience is when toe is broke it will turn black immediately and go numb for a while then itll hurt a lot for a week or two
if color is good in it may not of broke it but there a re other things there that could be damaged besides bones
it is a good idea to have it checked and get proper advice on treatment
they may say hot soaks or cold saoaks or something along that line
longer you wait before you see dr longer it may take to heal if there is a problem

it could be broken or fractured , if this is the case the doctors can't do anything , i play alot of football (socca) ive had quite a few broken toes lol things that helped me were put an ice bag on your toe for lyk 15 mins and then put something warm on for another 15 , do this twice a day , it might hurt at first but you get used to it and it helps , try not to put alot of pressure on it and if you need to go places wear cotton socks to comfort your toe a bit

Go in a dark room & shine a flashlight into the under side of your toe. You will be able to see your bones clearly. Chances are, you have not broken it. It will heal up on its own. If you cannot wiggle your toe, go see your doctor. This is not an emergency situation.

Typically a fracture will hurt the worst at the time of the injury. Pain that gets worse hours/days after the injury suggests something else - possibly injury to the skin or sprain or infection.
Be sure to keep that doctor's appointment!

It doesn't seem broken by how you described it, and if it's not even bruised or swollen, just try keeping ice on it, and keep the leg up (on a chair, or just lay on a bed or something). Avoid walking until the pain wears off.

it could be broken, but even if it is broken, theres nothing a doctor can do for you except say, "yep it is broken" - they're not gonna put your toe in a cast!! So you'll just have to live with it.
