Colonialism is not the cause of third world hunger. The weather, poor government and wars cause famine - but there is really very little third world hunger.
-Wars make people refugees which seperates them from their land and makes them beggars basically.
-Failed crops in poor, agricultural based economies cause famine because there is no back up or support to deal with a crisis when it comes along.
-Corrupt leaders cream off the wealth of their countries so the people do not have a safety net in times of crisis. See Mugabe destroying Zimbabwe.
-Colonialism is ancient history - these countries have had decades to get themselves together, but most have not.
-One problematic legacy of colonialism is the false borders that Africa was cut up into. These borders mostly took no notice of the distribution of tribal groups. So when countries became independent -tribal conflict resumed as a whole country, not just the traditional tribal territory, was up for grabs.
When it comes down to it, I think coruption is the biggest cause of poverty in the third world.

Overpopulation and corrupt government.

Corrupt governments would be main problem, take Zimbabwe, the country was called the garden of Africa since it produced so much food. Since the British left and Mugabe took control people are staving by the millions. It's not due to droughts but to Mugabe removing the white farmers from the land and the blacks that replaced them not working it. The same points can be used for most of Africa.

Overpopulation isn't really effecting third world countries since the top 10 highest population densities are not African

Probably. The colonial powers often split up their territories without regard to the local cultures. When these territories gained independence, they often contained a mish-mash of unrelated and sometimes adversarial cultures. These cultures were then expected to make a cohesive country, which didn't always work out too well and caused infighting. This infighting still exists today and causes unnatural famines and genocides.

Overpopulation. It's that simple.
