Could be migraines, and could be tension from the neck and shoulders. Could also be from a very heavy backpack straining the shoulders. If they respond to ibuprofen, then it's likely muscular stress, if they don't then it may be migraine. The doctor is the best one to evaluate it if it gets to be a problem, but these are the simpliest first things to check. Watch her posture and seating posture, and check the bookbag. Also keep track of the time of the month they occur, as with a female it can also be hormone related. Premenstrual tension can also include a headache. Look at the caffeine intake, if they are related to soda consumption or a particular food. Sometimes foods like bologna or hot dogs, or lunchmeats can do it- the preservatives can cause a vascular clampdown that triggers them. Most usually migraine pain is sharp and stabbing, while a tension headache is more a dull squeezing or throbbing. And migraines in teens are still not all that common. Not unheard of, but muscular headaches still outnumber them as the main cause. A migraine is also often associated with an aura, something like bright lights or flashing lights, and then becoming somewhat more sensitive to things like light, sound and smells. If it's really bothering you or her, keep a headache diary for a while, then take that with you to see the doctor. It will help a lot in deciding what is going on and how best to treat it.

i'm the queen of sinus infections and i too had a headache for 13 days straight. i too had a mri, ct scan, multiple medications, blood work, and physical therapy. out of pure desperation i saw a chiropractor....and it worked! when i left the appt the headache was 80% better and was completely gone 2 days later. my chiropractor said that certain headaches can mimic sinus headaches... worth a try....

it's possible, nurofen for migraines might work, try rubbing lavender oil into her temples, across her forehead & across the back of the neck area, sprinkle some drops onto her pillow too,try some chammomile tea as this relieves headaches,if nothing appears to work i would suggest taking her to the doctor right away for check ups.

pain in one part of the body can migrate to another part--called radiation. i have trigger points, stress areas that set off a headache and pain in parts of my body and usually they radiate. for instance, when i get a migraine i can find a tender spot in the occipital area of my head. once those muscles have been found to be the cause i know i can use acupressure to relieve it and some massage. also i cannot sleep on a pillow because it presses against that area. i also have a clay pack that retains heat for an hour or so when heated in the microwave. these can be found at ur local drug store.hope this helps.

This usually happens to me about once every two years. The doctor says that the headaches are of the migraine type. What he does, is give me two cortisone shots at the base of the skull, one on each side.It takes about two days before the full effect of the shots take effect. After that I feel fine.

Is your daughter's head well supported while she is sleeping? If not, maybe she has a headache due to a bent neck, and falling head, while sleeping.

Yes, it could be migraine. It's where I get mine sometimes althoug I usually get them at the side of my head. Doctor told me they were tension headaches brought on by stress. No cure, just painkillers for the pain and rest. Get her checked out at the doctors just incase.

They are caused by stress and tension and are NOT migraines which are on side or top of head and feel kinda like an ice pick sticking in your head.
Get your daughter some Aleve or Tylenol and tell her to chill out.

I get those for two reasons. One is a severly clogged sinus cavity which hurts from the base of my neck and up and feeld like something is sqeezing and trying to force its way through the back of my head. The other reason feels about the same but comes with a bit of shoulder pain to boot and is caused by tension for which I take Excedrin Tension Headache (just one fixes my right up till I can get a massage). Migrains typically happen to the front of your head (on one side or the other) and comes with a sensitivity to light and sound which makes you feel like a red hot poker is stabbing you in the eyes as well as the one side of your head wanting to explode off your body whist every sound just grates right across every nerve in your body making you want to lash out. I take tylenol 3 for this as it is the only thing I have found to work.
