simply because its pure & free of worries.
when you look at it. if its blue, you will feel the same.
just by looking at a clear blue sky makes me feel that i'm free & i like to be a wind to dance over it.
blue color represents coolness and being free

There are some horrifically bad answers here. I hope you won't be put off from asking something again! It seems a few people have got it right.

The sky is blue due to an atmospheric effect called Rayleigh scattering - certainly NOT because its reflecting the ocean which people sometimes say! Rayleigh scattering involves the scattering of light by molecules smaller than the wavelength of light. It has a smaller effect on colours with longer wavelengths and that is why the sky is blue - and also in fact why the sun is yellow - if you added up all the blue tint in the sky and focused it in the area of the sun you would get its actual colour of bright white, which is what you’d see out in space.

Physicists used to say that Rayleigh diffraction was responsible for the reddish tint in sunrise and sunset because the light had to travel through more atmosphere to reach us however this is currently disputed and there is another optical theorem at work called 'Lorenz-Mie theory'.

The sky is blue because the Earth is largely water. So when the light from the sun reflects off the water, it makes the sky blue.

A clear cloudless day-time sky is blue because molecules in the air scatter blue light from the sun more than they scatter red light. When we look towards the sun at sunset, we see red and orange colours because the blue light has been scattered out and away from the line of sight.

The light from the sky is a result of diffuse sky radiation which results in a light blue color being perceived by the human eye.

actually it not the reflection of the bodies of water! it is because of the dominant color of the rays of the sun that allows it to penetrate into the atmosphere and make the sky blue. that is why sometimes the sky look not only blue but also some colors of the sun rays especially when you observe for the rising of the sun. but mostly color BLUE dominates and scatters into the particles of the atmosphere.

its because of refraction of colours in the upper sky i.e ionosphere.We all know that the refractive index of red,green and orange are very low i.e these colours do not spread in atmosphere that's why these colours r used in signal lights,In opposite to this the refractive index of blue is highest therefore it spreads out in entire sky therefore the sky looks blue

well ::
its like this when light compromising of different colours come in contact with the atmosphere some of it is reflected for it cannot pass though while the rest is scattered
in the atmosphere blue is scattered the most compared to the rest of the light at sunset it is red that is scattered the most.

When light falls on certain particles, they absorb some colours and reflect the rest. The sky looks blue because most of the particles in the air, reflect the bluish colour when light falls on them
