I'd recommend an automatic feeder. You can usually get one at a pet store for about $10 for a cheap one and can load it with all your usual foods. There are fancier ones that go for more money too. I've used feeding blocks, hired neighbors to feed, and done the "leave the fish alone" thing, all with bad results.
Hint - if you do get an automatic feeder, test it you to be sure you set it up the way you want and that it works, before leaving town. Good luck!

I've had tropical fish in the past and they were allot more hard work than cold-water fish.
I now have C.W.FISH (8!) and they are great!
I put fish flakes in twice a day,as they are quite big eaters.
If you are going away though, get an automatic feeder(i use mine when i know i wont make there feed time)they are really good.
As for a change of food for you're fish,i know you can get something in the chest freezers at all pet shops(just cant remember the name of it!) as a treat for them. The only thing i will warn you is that it stinks!

You can buy a block from any aquarist/pet shop, it sticks on the side of the tank and the fish feed as and when they like. Just tell them you are going on holiday and want a food block to put in the tank.

Feed them well the week before you leave and have a routine change of water the night before you leave and you can leave them alone and not feed them for the duration you're away.
The pros side is that the water gets less polluted during this period and therefore it's better for the fishes but the cons is that if there are fries, their growth will be stunted.

Take the little darlings with you. They deserve a break also.
You can buy auto feeders that release a measured ammount of food into the tank, or try a deep frozen pizza, as it slowly thaws the fish will be able to nibble.

Feed them well for a few days before you go away and also do a water change. And they should be fine for the week even without food.

Feed them before you go and they will be ok. It would be a mistake to try and give them enough food for the week. They are better off not feeding for the week than to over eat and the water balance to go wrong while you are away.

if your only going away for a week i wouldnt worry about feeding them they are scavengers in the wild and only feed when they find food dont put a block in the tank as they can contaminate the water and you will come home to a dead tank
