MEDFORD, Ore. - High school English teacher Shirley Katz insists she needs to take her pistol with her to work because she fears her ex-husband could show up and try to harm her. She's also worried about a Columbine-style attack.

"This is primarily about my Second Amendment right and Oregon law and the simple fact that I know it is my right to carry that gun," said Katz

"I have that (concealed weapons) permit. I refuse to let my ex-husband bully me. And I am not going to let the school board bully me, either."

Virginian Tech has blood on it's hands because of foolish anti-gun policies like this. I say let the teachers and students (18+)who have permits carry their weapons!

NO SARCASM INTENDED ON

Oh, yeah, that's really smart. Why don't we just require everyone to carry a gun at all times so they can protect themselves from the morons who do carry guns?

NO SARCASM INTENDED OFF

Studies have shown that the more concentrated that gun ownership is; the lower the crime rate.

So our friend here may have actually said something intelligent; albeit by mistake.

Yes to teachers that have gone thru all the Licensing and training No to High School students once they graduate then they should be allowed to carry in Collage I personal believe that you should be at least 21 to get a CWP by that age you should have the maturity to handle the responsibility that goes with carrying a concealed weapon

Even with permits, you can't carry guns into many public buildings like a courhouse.

I respect your right to have a permit, but the school setting is no place to allow guns. The frequency of school shootings and the probablilty that someone with a gun will be there and act effectively to stop it don't outweigh the danger of having guns on campus.

Just because a teacher has a gun does not mean they can deploy it in such a situation to stop the violence.

I have to go with no guns at achool.

g-day!

The anti gun nuts would prefer if we were not able to protect ourselves.

During the 90's on Long Island NY we had the nut job Colin Ferguson shoot up the Long Island Rail Road. If someone was armed then he would have been dead instead of the many he did kill.

So my answer is YES let her carry a weapon to school. Least we forget all the school shootings that could have been stopped if they were shot.

Teacher's yes, students no. Even at 18, in a high school setting the stupidity and drama that is the average day of a teenager could lead to a student getting ticked off because someone said something about somebody that wasn't true and could lead to school shootings. Besides, some kids who are criminals who had their records esponged because they were juvenilles at the time don't need to be able to legally bring guns to school. Teachers, I say go for it. Maybe some of these punk kids will be more willing to learn knowing Misses Tingle is packing!

Gun possession can be allowed for isolated cases just like a teacher who has a threat from an ex-husband but this has to be proven with perhaps a court order.

Yes.

Any legal owner of a concealable firearm and appropriate license or permit, and have passed a certified arms qualification with the state should be allowed to carry a weapon anywhere except government offices and U.S. Military installations. Period.

true i agree that having a no gun policies makes it so that only the guy who's ganna kill some one has the only gun and no one else has anything to protect them selves with but at the same time pedestrians shouldn't have guns with them in the even of something that rarely happens.more people die of lighting than school shootings. i rather have someone who's job is protecting us to use a gun and not anyone who can get a permit.

School is a place for learning and work, not for fear. That teacher's personal life is endangering those who go to that school and we shouldn't change our laws cause of what she does outside of her job.

Yes. Maybe the age should be 21+ though, if it's to be in a school. Some 18 year olds are pretty immature.

In general, more guns = less violence.
