No, he did a great job this year. I am not a Yanks fan too, but I think Torre is a very good manager.

No he should not be fired under any condition. No the Yanks didn't choke, they just don't have a good team, they haven't since winning the 2000 World Series. It's a given the Yanks and Red Sox will be at the top of the American League East every year, the Devil Rays, Orioles, and Blue Jays are just bad teams.
The Yanks have a great hitting team but they have no pitching, and once you get to post season it's pitching and defense thats wins over good hitting, and until the Yanks get good pitching again, like they had from 1994 - 2000, they will constily lose in post season.
You can't blame Torre that the Yanks only have 1 good starting pitcher, Petite, and only 2 good relief pitchers, Joba and Mariano. Torre has no say on who the Yanks hire and let go. If anyone should be fired its Brian Cashman the GM. Torre is a great manager and the best Manager for the Yanks, just like Randolf is a great Manager for the Mets. It's Cashamn who forgot how the Yanks won in the past. The last 6 years Cashman slowly turned the Yanks into the Yanks of the 80's, huge payroll & big stars, but the stars he aquired are all based on offense witch does not now, never has, and never will win ballgames. Yes they aquired Clemens, a big name pitcher, but he was past his prime when they got him a few years ago, then this year was a complete waste of money to sign him again. Mussina same thing, he was also past his prime when the Yanks got him. The Yanks need great young pitchers not 40 year olds. And until they build a team like they had from 1994 - 2000 they will get into playoffs every year but won'y go any further.

I think Torre should quit and tell "the boss" to go scratch. But he is a gentleman who loves his players and the team. Each year, for the past 4 - we keep hearing about Torre possibly being let go. And that is all orchestrated by Steinbrenners PR team - to take the blame away from the players, Cashman and his poor, outrageous decisions. Yankees haven't won a ring in over 7 years now - and have been embarrassed a few times - while wasting billions to not win that ring, yet we keep hearing about the "dynasty" of the Yankees. Sure, they have the most Championships in the history - but for all that money and top brass positions - they have resulted in the same as 31 other teams each year - no ring. Plus who the hell could do a better job than Torre? Lou Pinelli perhaps - but even he as a great coach cannot hold the jockstrap to Torre. The dark horse is most likely Girardi, considering his accomplishments last year with a total team salary of 2 Yankee players - and a fan base that rivals a womens soccer team. (no disrespect to womens soccer) And to the Yankee cryass fans - Torre is the best thing since sliced bread for you idiots. Since Steinbrenner bought the team - how many rings do you have? Then tell me who was the manager for the majority. If you think Torre is the reason Rivera has a shot arm, or Abreau is batting .235, or the starting rotation of Seton Hall is better you are fools. You have a phenominal offense - and horrible pitching rotation, middle relievers and closer who is over the hill. That is why you share the basement in the AL East and will continue to. Plus the Yankees got away from their winning formula of building from within the farm system to give millions to aging players or 1 off contracts in desperation. You reap what you sow... And Michael - your comparison is inane. If a company has an owner or CEO who calls all the shots - he takes the fall, but will conveniently fire anyone they choose to fire, due to the lack of integrity and poor self esteem. Steinbrenner cannot have it both ways. HE chose to get rid of Sheffield and put all his support publically on Abraeu, just 1 fine example of piss poor ownership. Cody - Its Brian Cashman and he doesnt call the shots - he negotiates what the Boss tells him to do, like a good minion, hence his contract extension last year. And I could buy any player with an unlimited bank account.

Joe torre has to go. He doesn't hold his players ACCOUNTABLE when they play awful. He has never CALLED OUT his players on their terrible hitting and pitching in the media. They are the HIGHEST paid team in baseball, and he is the HIGHEST paid manager, so they should play better! Torre isn't a good strategist, cuz they don't play smart baseball, like hit and run, sacrificing, and avoiding double plays. And comparing this to Marty Shot. is like apples and Oranges.
San Diego Chargers went 14-2 and lost. Plus the don't have the highest paid coach in football, and I don't think they were better than the Patriots anyway. And Marty didn't go to the playoffs every year with that same team since 2000 and lose. Marty should not have got fired, but Torre has to go.

No.... Like you said the guy is an awesome manager in the MLB. Granted I cant stand the Yankees, and even enjoy watching them choke, I don't think it is Torre's fault when the people they pay BIG money to put on the field cant produce in the post season. Maybe they should make some of that money a bonus if they win the division and/or the World Series, then maybe you would see those guys actually play with some heart, because in my eyes that's what they are missing the most....next to pitching!

If Torre were on a normal team like say the Braves he wouldn't be fired, like Bobby Cox. But seriously if he can't push the right buttons in the postseason, like he can in the regular season, he's got to go. He doesn't use the same strategies that he used to use when the Yankees were winning World Series'. He's gone away from playing small ball to relying too much on home runs.
To his credit he wasn't given much of a pitching staff to work with this year.
It was a great run, but its time for a change.

Not under these circumstances, no. Torre is WAY over rated as a manager. The only strong point he's got is that he can keep his team of movie stars and prima donnas playing well. Face it, with his team, anyone would look like a great manager. His record with other teams is woeful. But to be dissed by the crazy nut Steinbrenner this way is not good at all. No one deserves that. Ask Bernie Williams.

Torre is getting up there in age and maybe it would be a good thing for him. I am not saying he should be fired due to the Yankees results, I believe it would be better for him to see if he wants to keep managing or hang it up...if he does want to manage maybe it would be good to have a change in scenery....maybe Atlanta again with Cox leaving after next year.
Steinbrenner is a clown and he thinks big pay roll wins ball games. He should be thankful to have a class act managing his BS ball club and over priced babies. Torre has had to put up with a lot and he has done a great job and I bet he would have won several championships if he would have gotten players from his farm teams and not from free agents and had to learn their ways and get them to gel with the rest of the big headed all-stars.
Excellent Manager and excellent person, deserves to get what he wants...if he wants to stay should get it, if he wants to walk away he should be able to under his terms.

Joe Torre has taken this organization as far as he's going to take it. They need to move on with younger players and new leadership.

How can you fire a manager that got a team into the playoffs every year which in Torre's case is 12?
