Well i must be honest and say that i do have suspicions about the McCann's..and like everyone else, no one knows what really happened that night..and i personally on this occasion would love to be proved wrong..that wouldn't worry me at all !
However I'm not sure if our suspicions are due to the genuine belief that the McCanns are involved in Maddie's disappearance..or whether it is just their general persona that sets people thinking..which I'm not saying is right..but we are only human and peoples personalities do play a major part in our judgments !
So i think it would be a huge advantage to Gerry & Kate if they would distance themselves from these high profile people and explain the mistakes in leaving their young children alone that night with a genuine voice !
Unlike some Anti McCann's..I would be quite understanding of their addmitance to having made a huge mistake..after all who's never made a mistake ? but its the arrogant way in which especially Gerry McCann speaks about it that seems to fuel peoples suspicions.....so if they are genuinly innocent of anything, than they need to have public on their side...and admitting to negligence and thoughtlesness would be a good start !

The McCanns have more on their minds than what the general public or rather a segment of the general public, think of them. Its not nothing to do with arrogance but more to do with grief.
For those who cannot or will not or refuse to see the McCann's grief, even if they did hold a news conference like the one you describe, i can bet hordes would go hoarse yelling that they are putting on a show for sympathy, that their regrets are not genuine & that its just a PR spin. The McCanns know this & naturally don't have the inclination or energy for it... Would you?

To be honest I think that even if they were to do what you suggest, it would be a case of too little, too late for most people.
To do such a thing now, after all of their self justifications and story changes, would simply seem to be yet another PR excercise. Press Conferences centred on Madeleine are one thing, but people are sick of PR and spin aimed purely at influencing how people think of the McCanns themselves...
If, as Faith says, the McCanns do not care what people think then why do they keep subjecting us to Spin, via Clarence Mitchell, which has NOTHING to do with Madeleine, and Everything to do with their Public Image?

If it was your child missing you would never give up searching, I dont think they need to justify themselves to anyone. Do you actually read or talk about anything other than the mcCanns ?

All my sympathies are directed towards one person and one person only and that is Maddie ...
They made the choice to leave them ..They made the choice to set up a company .. they made the choice to lie and deceive
How can i respect people who have no respect for others ?
Respect has to be earned not given

If they did, then probably yes.
And if they didn't, would you show some respect and sympathy for Maddie who was left alone resulting in her abduction?
Maybe my question is like asking a baby not to suck their thumb.
