Sterling silver has small amounts of metal to strengthen it, make it more lustrous & more resistant to tarnishing.
Pure silver is too soft for jewelry making.
Sterling silver is preferable.

Sterling silver
Pure silver is very soft and must be combined with other metals for use in jewelry. The term "sterling" indicates that the item is at least 925/1000 (92.5%) fine silver and 75/1000 (7.5%) copper. This proportion is fixed by law. The most common type of silver used in fine silver jewelry because it is not only luxurious, but also durable and relatively easy to care for.

Sterling is the UK standard for silver. An item made of sterling silver will have hall marks which show when it was made, who made it and in what year. These also guarantee the quality of the metal.
In the UK if an item isn't hallmarked it can only be described as 'white metal'.
In the long run a sterling item would probably hold its value better.

Sterling is a standard grade of silver. It is certified for content. Other silver can be of almost any grade.
There are other official grades of silver though.
You should enjoy reading the Wikipedia article on it, so here it is.

I would consider Sterling superior for wearing. I do not think of silver for bullion value except in older coins. If it is in jewelry it is almost always worth more as an object than as a metal.

Pure silver is 99.9 % silver, it is easily bent or tarnished.
Sterling silver has a twinge of metal in it making it 92.5% silver, & it is stronger..
Go for the sterling & also look for the rhodium plating. it'll protect it &make it much easier to maintain.

Sterling silver is silver with a fineness of 0.925. This alloy is good enough for jewellery items.
