I do love silent films, but your end date is off slightly, as I learned from Turner Classic Movies:
"The first known public exhibition of projected sound films took place in Paris in 1900, but it would be decades before reliable synchronization was made commercially practical. The first commercial screening of movies with fully synchronized sound took place in New York City in April 1923. In the early years after the introduction of sound, films incorporating synchronized dialogue were known as "talking pictures," or "talkies." The first feature-length movie originally presented as a talkie was The Jazz Singer, released in October 1927."
(my note: In addition, silents were made even into the "talkie era".)

Among my favorite silents are:
Phantom of the Opera with Lon Chaney, Sr.
Metropolis
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari
The Thief of Bagdad with Douglas Fairbanks, Sr.
The Adventures of Prince Achmed (This is my absolute favorite at the moment! TCM airs this occasionally, and it is so dazzling that I don't even want to blink for fear of missing mesmerizing images!)
Rudolph Valentino's films, especially The Sheik, The Young Rajah, and The Eagle
Sunrise

Fortunately, Turner Classic Movies frequently has "silent nights", which has provided me ample opportunity to see some wonderful rare films. I'm sure that I've forgotten a number of them, as it's 2 a.m., time for my mental functioning to go extremely fuzzy.

It is always a pleasure to watch a good film accompanied with your favorite music

Any movie when mute is more entertaining than the vocal ones. They give more room to thinking.
