right after it ballooned up and only bled a bit. I do not have money to go get it checked. The swelling has gone down quite a bit and there is no open wound and it is not hot and no streaking. Looks like there is blood pooled under the skin. Happened just yesterday, so I am wondering if anybody else has had this happen, and how long did it take for it to go away.

Since cats lick themselves and scrape the litter box with their claws, your biggest worry is infection. If there is unusual redness and swelling there may be an infection and you need to take care of that. If not, you are probably ok.

I've had it happen before. Unless there are signs of infection, you can probably disperse some of the pooled blood with very warm washcloths. I also found that soaking my arm in epsom salts (was it your arm?) helped. But watch it carefully. Puncture wounds from cats are prone to infection.

Last week I was watching a vampire movie with a foster kitten on my lap. Suddenly he leaned over and bit me, putting two puncture wounds in my arm - one nicking a vein. I've cut him off of T.V. and am holding him in "quarantine" (ie not returning him to the shelter) for 10 days to watch for signs of illness. I think he was just being silly, but better to be safe than sorry. He was too young for a rabies shot. I still have a slightly yellow spot where the blood hasn't quite gone away - and of course 2 perfect teeth marks like a vampire's.

I've been scratched by a cat quite a few times and have never needed a doctor's attention. When I get scratched, I wash it and put some antibiotic ointment on it and then let it scab over. Usually heals in just a few days. Yours will probably heal in a few days. Watch for swelling, redness, and pain, though, and if it gets worse see a doctor because you may have an infection.

You'd better go to the doctors because there might be some infection going on even there are no signs for it at this very moment. If you can't just spill some alcohol over it but leave it without bandage or plaster to if it changes - should pass in 5 to 8 days

I advise you to go to a doctor. It's not just the wound itself, you might be infected to.. Be careful also for the Rabies virus.
