what exactly is gossip???

i mean, i know what it is, but not exactly. is it when you THINK you know something bad about someone else, but go off and tell another person? or is it like, you KNOW something bad about one person, and you go and tell someone else?

i ask this because, at work ( a vet clinic) its mainly all girls except the doctors. 6 girls total including me. we had a staff meeting and the docs said that the gossip has got to stop. but i just want to know the difference. i dont really gossip very much, but sometimes im kinda put in the middle of it. :(

You are partly correct on your ideas or experience. There is something more when you talk of the faults of a person for the purpose of putting him down for vested interest, or for jealousy or envy' sake. Then in this case gossip is bad. On the other hand gossip becomes good when you tell the success of other persons for motive of love and praise and because you are happy of that person(s). You want to spread around the success of the person, etc. then gossip becomes good. It really depends on your intentions when you gossip.

well, first, gossiping is wrong. you shouldn't gossip about anyone. gossiping is when u're telling someone something that is not true about another person. thats how rumors get around, and for the person u r gossiping about, it just makes life very hard 4 him/her. does that help?

You got it right however gossip can be either true or false it's just about passing along information that is usually mean spirited or scandalous.

Gossip is the stuff you wouldn't want others talking about behind your back about you.

If you THINK you know something and tell it, that's RUMOUR.

If you KNOW something intimate about someone and tell it, that's GOSSIP.
