Whoa, you should be getting paid to be a mystery shopper. If it involves larger store chains, it is probably a scam. Most larger places have their own mystery shoppers on payroll.

As a general rule, always be suspicious when someone asks for money in exchange solely for information. There are secret shoppers and they do get paid to shop but it's not as glamorous as it sounds. Most of the time you are filling out paperwork and the demand for these 'jobs' is so high they really don't pay much. At any rate even if you really want to be a secret shopper its probably not gonna happen because you gave some website your credit card number so be careful.

It's legal for them to charge you a fee to give you the information, if you agree to pay for the info. If you're asking if you'll really make money from this, don't count on it.
