The ships should know the weather in order to avoid dangerous storms.

In agriculture it is important to know when is the best time to do different operations.

In case of a big storm the people should know in advance to be able to take measures.

For aviation purpose, the weather forecast is very important.Forecast weather for the destination aerodrome is required for the safe landing of the aircraft.The forecast temperature and forecast winds at the level in which the aircraft is flying is important for judging the engine performance and calculating the requirement of fuel respectively.Forecast enroute weather is also important for avoiding any adverse weather like thunderstorm and overcoming clear air turbulences.
Secondly, the movement of hurricanes and tornados and their future course of movement should be known to everybody so that necessary precautions can be taken.Ships can avoid the hurricane course.
Thirdly,flood warning to those living in the banks of rivers,warning about rough seas to fishermen,Heavy precipitation (rain or snow) warning to farmers will be of immence help to the concerned persons.Above all, the forecast weather and the actual weather occured can both be compared and necessary corrections can be made to improve the accuracy of forecast in future as we have to go a long way in forecasting the weather more accurately.
There are many other reasons but I have given here some important reasons only.

I would have to say this.

First and main reason to forecast weather is a job or your job or any job. Here's what I mean, farmers must look at the forecast to plant and harvest crops, pilots (like myself) must look at forecasts to see where the changes in weather are.

Second, vacation. You would want to know where the good weather is for your holiday. Why would you want to go to the beach if it is cold and raining?

Third and final, forecasting weather is becoming a unique science, man is getting better at predicting when bad weather around the world puts other people in danger and so they can be evacuated safely.

It can have an affect on crop harvesting and planting, an affect on commerce as far as shipping by air or sea as well as overland truck, affect the demand for heating or cooling resources such as electricity for cooling and oil or gas for heating. These prices are set by futures and actual demands. It can even affect the amount of ice that will be needed for holiday outings. Long range can have an affect on futures of crop production for a certain area. If several years of drought is forecast for the nations mid-states, corn, soybeans and other staples will cost more to produce because of irrigation needs if available or loss of crop causing shortage of supply.
